This qualification reflects the role of individuals working in supervisory and technical specialist positions in civil construction. They perform tasks involving a broad range of varied work activities, most of which are specialised and within known or changing contexts. They are responsible for the quantity and quality of their own work, as well as for the output of others, and contribute to the development of technical solutions to non-routine problems.

What You’ll Study

The qualification has core and elective units covering two specialisations: Supervision and Operations. This course leads to the Supervision specialisation, RII40720 Certificate IV in Civil Construction (Supervision), made up of 12 units of competency: 5 core units plus 7 elective units, with at least 3 electives from Group A and at least 2 from Group B.

• Core skills: demonstrating leadership in the workplace, coordinating business operational plans, implementing and monitoring WHS policies and programs, supervising civil works, and applying site risk management.
• Group A electives (general supervision): options include business planning and finance, supporting the learning and development of teams, workplace information systems, continuous improvement, environmentally sustainable work practices, contract administration and tendering, community relations, traffic management plans, civil works cost estimates and quality management.
• Group B electives (operations): options include works maintenance scheduling, sample and material testing, blasting operations, pavement and structure supervision, underground services installation, tunnel construction and traffic management in confined spaces.

On successful completion you receive a nationally recognised Certificate IV in Civil Construction (Supervision).
