Certificate II in Resources and Infrastructure Work Preparation

Starting a career in the resources and infrastructure sector means building the fundamental skills to work safely and follow site procedures. RII20120 Certificate II in Resources and Infrastructure Work Preparation builds the foundation skills for routine tasks on site, including workplace communication, environmental awareness, risk control and WHS compliance. It is a pathway qualification into a Certificate III across the resources and infrastructure industry.

Training Details

This qualification reflects the roles of individuals working in the resources and infrastructure industries who perform mainly routine tasks and procedures, using limited practical skills and fundamental operational knowledge, and taking some responsibility for the quality of the work outcomes.

This is a pathway qualification that prepares individuals to successfully undertake a sector-specified Certificate III from the RII Resources and Infrastructure Industry Training Package.

There are no entry requirements for this qualification.

Assessment is competency-based and combines theory with practical demonstration.

What You’ll Study

The qualification is made up of 9 units of competency: 4 core units plus 5 elective units, with at least 3 electives from Group A and no more than 2 from Group B.

  • Core skills: workplace communication, identifying and assessing environmental and heritage concerns, conducting local risk control, and working safely under WHS policies and procedures.
  • Group A electives: options include scaffolding basic level, measurements and calculations, fire team operations, operating a forklift, dogging, basic rigging, basic scaffolding operations, handling and disposing of materials, isolating and accessing plant, hand and power tools, cutting and welding, reading maps, and operating a light vehicle.
  • Group B electives: options include operating a personal digital device, sustainable work practices, working effectively with diversity, first aid, planning and organising work, reading plans and job specifications, site work processes, site quality standards, responding to spills, confined spaces, working at heights, and traffic control.

On successful completion you receive a nationally recognised Certificate II in Resources and Infrastructure Work Preparation.
